Tasks

  • Own the lab infrastructure, including coordination with maintenance, organizing calibration of equipment, and managing lab supplies.
  • Ensure lab safety and organize/structure lab spaces for multiple ongoing projects.
  • Support scientific work by designing and building power electronics prototypes up to medium voltage and megawatt power.
  • Assist in commissioning test setups and perform testing together with scientific staff.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, and supervise apprentices in daily tasks.

Requirements

  • Completed apprenticeship as an automation technician (Automatiker EFZ) with practical experience in machining (milling, drilling, turning, manual work), and able to converse in English.
  • Additional education from a Higher Technical School or University of Applied Sciences (Höhere Fachschule HF / Fachhochschule FH) in power electronics, energy systems, or similar is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with CAD design using tools such as Creo, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or equivalent; PCB design knowledge is a plus (Altium Designer).
  • Solid experience in electrical circuit design, grounding concepts, and wiring standards.
  • Hands-on experience building and prototyping power electronic systems, including mechanical work, tooling, and implementing ad-hoc improvements.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical standards (e.g., NIV / NIN / SNR 464022) and familiarity with lab technologies such as 3D printing, LabVIEW, and laser cutting/engraving.
