Tasks

  • Lead and manage the turbocharging R&D department to drive the development of new products, components, technologies and engineering methodologies aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Define and execute the TC R&D strategy ensuring it supports the company's vision and objectives.
  • Foster an innovative environment that encourages creative solutions, research breakthroughs, and efficient development processes.
  • Ensure efficient allocation of the R&D budget on related projects and initiatives.
  • Represent the company in industry organizations and initiatives, such as CIMAC Greenhouse Gas Strategy Group and Swissmem industry sector for the internal combustion engine industry, and support the Swiss IMO delegation.
  • Oversee the development of new products from concept through to prototype, ensuring that each product meets performance, safety, and reliability standards.
  • Manage the research and design process to ensure efficient, cost-effective product development that reflects customer needs and aligns with Accelleron Product Market Strategy.
  • Ensure robust testing and validation processes are in place to assess product performance and reliability with adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain and continuously develop testing and computing infrastructure.
  • Focus on improving product performance, reliability and safety.
  • Identify potential risks and implement corrective actions throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Work closely with Division Presidents and senior management to ensure alignment on product development goals and timelines.
  • Jointly approve and sign-off on all product releases with Division Presidents to ensure products meet required standards before market launch.
  • Enhance opportunities that AI provides in collaboration with AI organization.
  • Collaborate with Vice President Strategy and Investor Relations on scouting of new technologies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the R&D department and across the organization to optimize efficiency and productivity.
  • Stay current on industry trends, research methodologies, AI and emerging technologies to maintain competitive advantage and drive innovation.
  • Build and maintain networks with diverse stakeholders such as universities, research institutions and associations to gain broad perspective of development and to represent the company.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the R&D team, ensuring that each member is supported in their professional development and empowered to contribute to the team’s success.
  • Secure that competences needed now and in the future are acquired and developed.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance and effective safety culture within the department.

Requirements

  • In depth and proven knowledge of turbocharging technologies and research methodologies including an advanced degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Robust experience of leading R&D operations and engineering globally across a complex technology portfolio.
  • Strong track record of creating and leading technology strategies, investment prioritization and innovation portfolios, preferably on enterprise level and closely aligned with business strategy.
  • Experience of repeatedly leading technology development from concept through validation to market introduction, especially leading turbocharger programs successfully converting innovation into commercial outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of product performance testing, validation, safety, and reliability assessments as well as regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional stakeholder and influencing skills based on having regularly interfaced with executive leadership, government agencies, universities, industry consortia and regulatory bodies while advising on technology and policy topics.
  • Excellent leadership skills with collaborative and people-focused leadership style proven in successfully leading sizable global teams.
  • Future technology and innovation orientation combined with strong business and investment acumen.
