Imagine helping to redefine how the world navigates by building a proprietary, next generation Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that challenges the limits of conventional navigation. Instead of relying on increasingly complex hardware, we are shifting that complexity into intelligent software, creating a new generation of high precision sensing technology. At Destinus, we are revolutionizing the defense industry with cutting-edge Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), delivering unparalleled speed, precision, and cost effectiveness for mission-critical operations.

Tasks

  • Design the core physical sensing element from the ground up.
  • Own the mathematical modelling, multi-physics simulations, and micro scale geometries that define sensor vibration, behavior, and performance.
  • Use simulation software to model and optimise the exact 3D geometries of micro-scale vibrating sensor structures.
  • Run detailed multi-physics simulations to map out mechanical energy movement and maximise energy storage while eliminating structural, acoustic, and thermal energy losses.
  • Calculate the precise spacing, sizing, and layout of electrostatic gaps and drive pads for the electronics team to interact with the physical sensor.
  • Translate optimised mathematical models into clean engineering layout files for cleanroom fabrication.
  • Work closely with the Materials Engineer to ensure manufacturability and collaborate with FPGA and Software leads to translate physical wave dynamics into code requirements.

Requirements

  • PhD or master's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
  • At least 5 years of experience in simulation.
  • Hands-on experience with physics simulation tools.
  • Enjoy modelling vibration modes, mechanical stress, and thermal behaviour.
  • Strong physical intuition for how microscopic structures bend, vibrate, and lose energy.
  • Ability to spot structural stress bottlenecks in simulation plots.
  • Clear communicator able to translate complex physics concepts into practical engineering steps for hardware and software teams.
  • Experience designing precision sensors like accelerometers, micro-gyroscopes, atomic clocks, or acoustic wave devices is a plus.
  • Basic familiarity with semiconductor cleanroom processing steps is a plus.
  • Driven by curiosity and enjoy solving complex physical problems.
  • Combine deep theoretical knowledge with practical engineering thinking.
  • Thrive in multidisciplinary environments where physics, electronics, manufacturing, and software come together.
  • Take ownership of challenging technical problems and communicate clearly across teams.
  • Motivated by seeing ideas evolve from mathematical models into breakthrough hardware.
