The Associate Director Engineer - Material & Process Optimization role is focused on fragrance creation optimization, aiming to reduce raw material, packaging material, formulation, and operational complexity. You will drive integration between perfumery operations, creations, and the perfumery growth office to ensure seamless scale-up of new perfumery product creations and industrialization. The position enables efficient manufacturing processes, streamlined formulation portfolios, and enhanced supply chain responsiveness, aligning fragrance development with business growth, operations efficiency, and sustainability goals.

Tasks

  • Establish efficient and reliable scaling up processes for perfumery liquid technologies, including industrializing new products, formulations, and processes.
  • Ensure formulas introduced for manufacturing are cost-effective, manufacturable, and supply-resilient.
  • Lead process and material optimization of perfumery liquid technologies through optimal use of GCPs, GMPs, and industrialization capabilities towards total delivery cost reduction and avoidance.
  • Develop and optimize fragrance solutions in manufacturing formulations that meet creative, regulatory, safety, quality, and technical requirements.
  • Serve manufacturing teams by optimizing formulas and material choices for scalability and production and supply chain efficiency.
  • Collaborate with perfumery operations and perfumery growth office to identify and eliminate complexity drivers.
  • Develop the "Right First Time - formula Design & Qualification" capability in Operations.
  • Drive "Right-First-Time" execution by ensuring liquid formulations transferred among plants are robust and manufacturing-ready in conjunction with other functions such as Growth office and Procurement.
  • Align with Material Strategy & Solutions, ingredients, and procurement to standardize and rationalize Active Material List and potentially upstream RM palettes across categories.
  • Improve manufacturing yield, operating cost, and process simplification including alternative material proposals.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (growth office, regulatory, R&D, SNO, and others) to align on strategic goals.
  • Contribute to sustainability, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives that support the Perfumery SHAPE strategy of growth, efficiency, and synchronization.

Requirements

  • BSc or MSc degree in engineering, chemistry, fragrance technology, or other related fields.
  • Over 8 years of hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with manufacturing process optimization knowledge and preferably experience in perfume liquid technologies, with a proven track record of technical (re)formulation.
  • Strong understanding of perfume raw material functions, performance, regulatory, and safety constraints.
  • Experience working in or with operations, procurement, or supply chain teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance creative formulation with operational and cost considerations.
  • Familiarity with formulation, process systems (compounding, filling, and packaging), and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, project management, and presentation skills, with experience presenting to senior leaders.
  • Fluent in English; French is preferred, and knowledge of another language is a plus.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Background in FMCG, home or personal care, or fragrance industry.
  • Experience in complexity or portfolio reduction initiatives.
  • Exposure to digital tools for complexity tracking and formulation simplification.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to work in an international organization with colleagues from all over the world.
  • Deep dive into the Supply Chain industry.
  • Diverse, continued internal growth and career opportunities.
  • A culture that prioritizes safety and well-being, both physically and mentally.
