Join a new research project focused on science integration within the NCCR-CLIM+, the first interdisciplinary, Switzerland-wide climate research community. You will be part of Eawag's Department of Environmental Social Sciences and work with experts in leading large research consortia. This project studies how science integration works in interdisciplinary settings, offering you the chance to help shape future climate research in Switzerland.

Your tasks

  • Study science integration using NCCR-CLIM+ as an empirical case study.
  • Explore what enables or hinders science integration in large consortia.
  • Investigate challenges and opportunities for team members regarding science integration.
  • Identify lessons learned and best practices for future consortia.
  • Use qualitative social science methods, such as semi-structured interviews, co-creation workshops, and participant observations.
  • Publish peer-reviewed articles and produce practice briefs for academies and funding agencies.
  • Share hands-on insights on strengthening integrative research culture and creating meaningful connections between research institutions, teams, disciplines, and society.

What you bring

  • MSc in social sciences (e.g., sociology, political science), anthropology, science and technology studies, environmental sciences, or related fields.
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary research, especially at the interface between disciplines, teams, and institutions.
  • Experience with qualitative social science methods (e.g., interviews, participant observations, focus groups, co-creation workshops).
  • Ability to conduct qualitative content analysis (inductive and/or deductive coding).
  • Experience writing peer-reviewed publications and practice briefs or similar outputs.
  • Intrinsic motivation to support interdisciplinarity in theory and practice.
  • Good integrative skills, social and emotional intelligence.
  • Fluent in English and at least one Swiss national language.
  • Willingness to work on a fixed-term position for four years, ideally starting 1 September 2026.
