The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain. Approximately 600 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards. The Research Unit Forest and Soil Ecology investigates the functions of forests and soils under global environmental change. The Soil Functions and Dynamics group is offering a five-month position starting on 1 October 2026 or by agreement within the project DRYMET, which seeks to quantify risks from heavy metals to drinking water resources.
Tasks
- Support the project leader in laboratory column experiments that simulate extreme climate events.
- Set up and run experiments with soil cores.
- Take samples, separate them into size fractions, and prepare them for analysis.
- Conduct UV-Vis spectrophotometric and organic carbon analyses of aqueous samples.
- Support the evaluation of experimental data, contributing to the complete research process.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental sciences or chemistry.
- Basic experience working in a laboratory.
- Working proficiency in English or German.
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently is highly valued.
