Join a dynamic research team working on an exciting project to predict the impacts of climate change on ecosystems through an eco-evolutionary biome framework. As part of the Dynamic Macroecology group, you will contribute to innovative research on global biomes and their responses to environmental change.

Your tasks

  • Test key aspects of biome biogeography theory as part of a research project.
  • Generate and analyze outputs from machine learning models, process-based simulations, and macroevolutionary approaches.
  • Conduct statistical hypothesis testing related to biome dynamics.
  • Take responsibility for specific theory-testing tasks and support team members with spatial products and analytical protocols.
  • Help synthesize biome biogeography theory across different sub-projects within the group.

What you bring

  • PhD in ecology or a related field.
  • Expert knowledge in macroecology, functional ecology, high-volume data processing and analysis, spatial ecology/modelling, and coding with R, Python, and GIT.
  • Additional skills in remote sensing, cluster computing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence are a plus.
  • Ability to develop new ideas independently.
  • Very good English skills, both written and spoken.
  • Curious, self-reliant, and an excellent team worker who values cooperation.

What we offer

  • Work as part of a collaborative, international research team.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a high-impact project funded by an SNSF (ERC) Advanced Grant.
  • Possibility of contract extension beyond the initial 18 months.
  • Inclusive and supportive work environment that values diversity and gender equality.
