Empa's Laboratory of Advanced Materials Processing (LAMP) is a multidisciplinary research unit focused on innovative functional modification of materials by beam and plasma induced processing. The lab develops novel materials, explores beam-matter interactions, and advances automated AI/ML systems for materials processing and quality assurance. Combining additive manufacturing, large scale laser micro-processing, multiscale modelling and AI/ML for quality monitoring, LAMP offers novel nanostructured materials and their integration into devices.
Tasks
- Operation of different laser platforms
- Conceptualization and setup of optical systems
- Hardware synchronization and data acquisition
- Conduction of experimental campaigns, evaluation of results and reporting
Requirements
- PhD degree in Physics, Photonics, Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in laser applications (measuring, processing, etc.), optical system design, assembly and usage
- Hands-on experimental mindset
- Strong understanding of laser and optical physics
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with data analysis and experimental optimization
- English required; French and German are a plus
