The Department of Architecture (D-Arch) at ETH Zurich is seeking independent architects to teach their vision for the future of architecture and construction in a new experimental design studio. This opportunity invites innovative approaches to studio teaching in architectural design, aiming to address evolving conditions and contribute new forms of knowledge to the field.
Tasks
- Teach a design studio with approximately 25 Bachelor and Master students in Architecture on campus for two days a week as Guest Lecturers for two semesters between Fall 2027 and Spring 2029.
- Present a variety of positions and methods that synthesize evolving conditions into proposals for buildings and environments.
- Engage with challenges such as climate change, digital craftsmanship, future environments, productive use of the past, and empowering design and construction.
- Submit a teaching statement describing engagement with topics like re-use, aesthetics, climate emergency, composition, housing shortage, tactility, parity, construction, inclusivity, space, care, and expression.
- Include a teaching methodology to prepare students as responsible actors in the future of architecture.
- Participate in regular intermediate reviews and public final presentations with external guests to promote exchange between students and faculty.
Requirements
- Apply as a team containing at least one independently practicing architect.
- Applicants must not have more than 2 years of teaching experience in independently leading a design studio at any other faculty for architecture.
- Weekly presence on campus is required.
- Applicants with a working contract with ETH during the application period will not be considered.
- International applicants must submit a proposal for sustainable travelling.
