At the Student Project House (SPH), students are inspired and empowered to cultivate a maker and innovator mindset by developing their own projects and learning important competencies for their future. The SPH ecosystem supports Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral students in exploring the real need behind their ideas. The new location in St. Gallen, launched in collaboration with the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and START Foundation, aims to build a community of ETH and HSG students who learn from each other through peer-to-peer learning. This is a unique opportunity to help build a new organisation and shape its culture, offers, and community from the ground up.

Tasks

  • Coach early-stage projects from diverse backgrounds, helping them reflect, ask insightful questions, and support them in identifying their next steps without taking on a leadership role.
  • Develop learning journeys and service offers to support students from start to finish, including conceptualizing, testing, building, documenting, running, continuously improving, tracking, and scaling these offers, building on existing ETH SPH structures and learnings.
  • Design, host, and facilitate community formats, events, and peer-to-peer exchanges that connect and activate students and their projects.
  • Lead key internal initiatives aligned with SPH’s mission, represent SPH with senior stakeholders, and foster partnerships and collaboration within the team and across the wider ecosystem.
  • Support the build-up, development, and scaling of the new location and its offers from the ground up.

Requirements

  • Experience in starting and implementing your own projects (start-up, entrepreneurship project, innovation project, etc.).
  • Have failed, learned from it, and tried again.
  • Methodological skills valuable for coaching early-stage projects in innovation (prototyping, agile development, design thinking, project management, product development, lean startup, business models, team dynamics, etc.).
  • Proven track record of independently designing, initiating, and managing complex projects.
  • Ability to create clear, efficient, and scalable services and processes designed to support more than 300 project teams per year.
  • Enjoy working with people in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and passionate about helping students develop a Maker-Innovator Mindset.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups of students and senior stakeholders, as well as hosting and facilitating community events.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized higher-level institution.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in the field of innovation, coaching, your own startup, or a similar field.
  • Ideally, experience in community building, software or product development, or specialist knowledge in areas such as AI, robotics, or digital technologies.

Benefits

  • Employment by ETH Zurich with reporting to the Head of HSG ETH SPH.
  • 1-year contract with the possibility and intention to prolong (fixed-term contracts are standard at ETH).
  • Funding and pilot set to last 2 years, with intention to proceed if successful and funding is secured.
  • High autonomy and direct impact on the future of education at HSG and ETH Zurich.
  • Regular team feedback sessions and value for everyone's opinion.
  • Inclusive culture, promotion of equality of opportunity, and nurturing of a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Sustainability as a core value, consistently working towards a climate-neutral future.
