The Lake Lucerne Institute (LLUI) is an independent, non-profit research and education institute based in Vitznau, Switzerland, dedicated to developing and implementing technological solutions to improve rehabilitation outcomes and bridge the gap between theory and practice. Within the Therapy Science Lab, research focuses on ubiquitous rehabilitation by aligning interventions with a patient’s clinical state, lesion characteristics, and multimodal biomarkers to optimize therapeutic effectiveness across the care pathway. This position is part of the CEREBRIS project, an EIC Pathfinder Open initiative with 14 European partners, aiming to establish a novel, data-driven framework for managing neurological diseases, initially focusing on stroke.

The role offers the opportunity to advance and deploy scalable biomechanical assessment systems in clinical and research environments, directly contributing to patient-centered rehabilitation planning and service optimization. You will gain experience in clinically grounded research connecting neurorehabilitation, movement science, and data-driven approaches.

Tasks

  • Contribute to the development and validation of multi-view (primary) and monocular (secondary) markerless motion capture pipelines, and a quality assurance framework for kinematic datasets (50%).
  • Assist in translating kinematic outputs into clinician-interpretable formats (20%).
  • Engage in scientific writing and dissemination (20%).
  • Support the generation and implementation of synthetic data (10%).

Requirements

  • Experience with computer vision for motion analysis.
  • Master’s degree in Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Vision, Computer Science, Neuroscience, Health Science, Biomedicine, Physio- or Occupational Therapy, or a related field.
  • Understanding of study design, scientific methods, and statistical modelling.
  • Expertise in Python, C# or an equivalent language.
  • Basic knowledge of machine learning or deep learning.
  • Exposure to musculoskeletal modelling (desirable).
  • Familiarity with containerization or version control workflows (desirable).
  • Interest in regulatory AI reporting frameworks (desirable).
  • Interest in synthetic data generation (desirable).
  • Reliability and structured work approach.
  • Strong communication skills in English (oral and writing).
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, and communicative approach to work.
