The Optical Nanomaterial Group in the Physics Department at ETH Zurich is seeking two Postdoctoral Researchers for 3-year projects focused on quantum networks and quantum sensing. The group specializes in the nanofabrication and optical characterization of thin film lithium niobate (TFLN) photonic circuits for applications in nonlinear optics, quantum communications, and quantum sensing.

Tasks

  • Work on TFLN circuits for quantum networks and TFLN circuits for quantum sensing as part of 3-year projects.
  • Develop sources of non-degenerate entangled photon-pairs for quantum networks, with one photon at the quantum memory wavelength and the other in the telecom band for long-distance transmission over optical fiber.
  • Contribute to a Switzerland-wide consortium on quantum networks.
  • Use TFLN photonics for generating squeezed vacuum for gas sensing applications, including periodically poled waveguides and photon number resolution detection.
  • Participate in a QuantERA project with Imperial College London, the University of Oxford, and ICFO.
  • Work on background theory, simulation, design, aspects of nanofabrication, and characterization of photonic circuits.
  • Perform quantum information experiments.

Requirements

  • Experience in areas such as integrated photonics, nonlinear optics, quantum photonics, quantum information, and spontaneous parametric down-conversion.
