Join our international materials research team and help advance the testing and understanding of diamond segments used in cutting applications. Combining hands-on experimentation with data analysis and microstructural characterization, you will investigate material performance and wear mechanisms while contributing directly to ongoing research and development projects. This internship is available from January 2027 and runs for 6–12 months.

Tasks

  • Prepare, execute, and document laboratory tests on diamond segments using defined test rigs and procedures to evaluate wear.
  • Perform post-test characterization of diamond segments, including optical microscopy and digital image analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) where applicable, and qualitative and quantitative wear analysis (e.g. wear modes, grain pull-out, matrix degradation).
  • Analyze experimental data using tools such as Excel, MATLAB, or similar data-analysis software to extract relevant performance and wear metrics.
  • Summarize and visualize results in technical presentations, short reports, or internal documentation for use in R&D project meetings.
  • Conduct basic literature reviews on diamond materials, wear mechanisms, and tribological behavior to support data interpretation and experimental findings.

Requirements

  • Student in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering subjects.
  • Strategic approach and good problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interest in hands-on, laboratory and scientific work to conduct and evaluate tests.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate experimental findings into recommendations and conclusions.
  • Proactive approach and self-reliant personality.
  • Knowledge about tribology will be especially valued.
  • Good knowledge of the English language.

Benefits

  • Diverse global headquarters community of over 2,100 colleagues from 70 nationalities.
  • Flexible and trust-based working model including remote work, workation and sabbaticals.
  • Inclusive culture supported by more than 60 employee-led activity networks.
  • Modern campus with onsite gym, restaurants, mobility benefits and outdoor activities.
  • Opportunities to contribute to social impact initiatives both locally and globally.
