Your tasks

  • Lead and carry out research projects focused on new packaging materials and structures.
  • Manage the scale-up and industrial validation of new material structures from lab to pilot and industrial trials.
  • Support packaging material converting and manufacturability by planning and running trials with internal and external partners, and use findings to improve material designs and specifications.
  • Help develop barrier solutions for food and beverage packaging using coatings, barrier layers, laminates, and adhesives for fiber-based, polymer, and hybrid structures.
  • Stay up to date with recyclability rules and circularity frameworks, making sure new materials meet all requirements and internal standards.
  • Turn packaging performance needs into material requirements and carry out tests for barrier, sealability, mechanical performance, and shelf-life.
  • Build and share expertise through impactful publications and communications.
  • Contribute to intellectual property, including invention disclosures and patents for new packaging materials and structures.

What you bring

  • MSc and/or PhD in materials science/engineering, polymer science, paper engineering, or a related field, ideally with experience in food and beverage packaging.
  • Proven experience in R&D or technical development in packaging materials, including lab work and structured experiments (fiber-based, polymers/bio-based, coatings/adhesives, barrier layers, laminates).
  • Familiarity with packaging material converting and manufacturing processes, and ability to include manufacturability needs in design (experience with converters is a plus).
  • Awareness of food-contact rules and product safety/quality expectations, with the ability to work with regulatory and quality teams for compliant solutions.
  • Ability to work well with external partners like suppliers, converters, and academic or industry networks.
  • Strong innovation mindset, work ethic, and integrity.
  • Ability to translate scientific ideas into business solutions.
  • Proficiency in English.
