As a Bioprocess Engineer - Pilot Plant (Fermentation & DSP) at Nestlé Research in Lausanne, Switzerland, your mission is to lead bioprocessing activities that bridge lab-scale discovery and industrial manufacturing through robust fermentation and downstream processing solutions. You will collaborate closely with pilot plant teams, scientists, engineers, quality and safety specialists, technical experts and external partners to turn ideas into sustainable and innovative solutions for people, pets, and the planet.

Tasks

  • Lead pilot-scale bioprocess trials to help transform promising research into scalable manufacturing solutions.
  • Drive fermentation process development by optimizing media, feeding strategies and key operating parameters for reliable performance.
  • Develop downstream processing approaches to improve yield, recovery and product quality.
  • Build process understanding through data analysis, automation insights and digital tools that support optimization and reproducibility.
  • Contribute to safe, compliant and high-quality pilot plant operations through risk assessment, documentation and continuous improvement.
  • Shape the development of new biotech pilot plant capabilities by translating process needs into practical equipment and facility solutions.

Requirements

  • Strong expertise in fermentation, bioprocessing and pilot or industrial-scale operations.
  • Experience applying scale-up, technology transfer and industrialization knowledge to make processes robust and ready for implementation.
  • Ability to use analytical thinking, process data and automation tools to troubleshoot, optimize and improve reproducibility.
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working across research, engineering, operations, quality and safety teams, demonstrating ownership and a hands-on approach.
  • Confident communication and presentation skills in French or English.
  • Bringing collaboration, fresh thinking, bold questions, respect, and a positive, wellbeing-oriented mindset.
