The Platform Architect connects architecture, extensibility, developer enablement, and governance. Tasks

  • Define and govern the SAP platform architecture across S/4HANA (ERP, EWM, GTS…), SAP BTP, and all integration touchpoints.
  • Shape the technology landscape, set guardrails, and ensure every extension or customisation is justified, sustainable, and future-proof.
  • Lead the OSBF Design Authority, promote Clean Core principles and SAP's extensibility strategy, and ensure alignment with SAP's product roadmap and enterprise architecture.
  • Drive the architectural direction of the platform across Core Architecture, BTP & Development.
  • Participate in strategic architectural decisions such as use cases for BTP, Federated platforms, ERP/EWM decoupling, S/4HANA continuous evolution, Job Scheduling, and establishing a Printing Platform.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture team on cross-cutting concerns such as Disaster Recovery design and enterprise-wide technology alignment.
  • Evolve the Platform to further integrate CI/CD practices and integrate AI strategy in the platform roadmap & design.
  • Define consumable and reusable services for product teams to accelerate delivery, increase autonomy, and reduce custom development and duplicated effort.
  • Define and enforce Clean Core guidelines: minimise custom code, maximise standard, and leverage key-user extensibility and BTP side-by-side extensions.
  • Own the decision framework for extensibility: in-app vs. side-by-side.
  • Guide product teams on extensibility patterns and conduct architecture reviews for significant developments.
  • Integrate Group Standards for reusable architecture patterns, especially for API design, event-driven integration, data models, CDS views, and Fiori apps.
  • Champion configuration as Code for SAP platforms, including BTP (Terraform), adhering to guidelines for security, identity management, and connectivity.
  • Publish and maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and reference architectures.
  • Guide technical archiving, data volume management strategy, and application retirement (ILM).
  • Provide architectural direction on data lifecycle decisions impacting performance, storage costs, and compliance.
  • Participate in cross-team design reviews and lead the SAP platform Architecture Board.
  • Establish and animate an Architect Community across product teams.
  • Stay ahead of SAP technology evolution through continuous learning, SAP community engagement, and vendor dialogue.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in SAP ecosystems, with deep expertise across S/4HANA, SAP BTP, and hybrid integration landscapes.
  • 3+ years in an SAP platform architecture role.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Deep understanding of S/4HANA architecture, Clean Core methodology, custom code analysis (ATC, Custom Code Migration app), and extensibility options (BAdIs, RAP, key-user extensibility).
  • Strong knowledge of the BTP service portfolio — CAP, Integration Suite, SAP Build Work Zone, HANA Cloud, AI Core / Generative AI Hub, Event Mesh, Destination & Connectivity services.
  • Proven expertise in API-first design, event-driven architecture, side-by-side extensions, and Fiori/UX architecture.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, configuration as code - Terraform.
  • Solid understanding of SAML 2.0, OIDC, SSO, and identity management concepts.
  • Understanding of the RISE with SAP operating model and SAP Cloud ALM.
  • Balances long-term architecture ambition with short-term delivery reality (strategic vs. tactical).
  • Defends architectural principles but listens to field constraints.
  • Explains complex architecture concepts to business stakeholders, product teams, and technical audiences alike.
  • Influences without commanding; earns trust through expertise.
  • Works with security, operations, and enterprise architecture — not in place of them.
  • Sees the whole SAP landscape as interconnected and integrated within a global, heterogeneous enterprise landscape.
  • Continuously tracks SAP innovation and industry best practices.
