The Department of Biomedicine (DBM) is a joint venture of the University of Basel and the University Hospitals Basel, bringing together basic and clinical scientists to advance the understanding of health and disease. The division of Experimental Virology at the Department of Biomedicine is seeking a highly motivated and skilled research technician to join their collaborative and international environment.
Tasks
- Support research projects covering topics from molecular virology, mechanistic vaccinology, to fundamental questions around virus–host relationships in persistent microbial infection.
- Apply classical and cutting-edge molecular biological techniques, engineer viruses and their growth, characterize viruses in cell culture, and assess immune responses in vivo in mice and ex vivo by multi-dimensional flow cytometry and serological assays.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of experimental work and analyze data.
- Assume core responsibilities for the organization, maintenance, and logistics of the lab.
Requirements
- Trained as a laboratory technician or hold a university degree in the life sciences.
- Practical experience in fundamental biomedical research, ideally in molecular biology, virology, and immunology using animal models.
- Passionate about your work, with a scientific mindset and precision in execution and thought, enabling independent conduct of complex experiments.
- Hardworking attitude and strong desire to continuously learn.
- Ability to become an integral part of a young and dynamic research team.
- English and German in writing and speech are required.
