The fellow would have the opportunity to play a key role in the IN/AT-SYNC JWST large programme targeting the atmospheres of sub-Neptunes in resonant systems. The position is funded for 2 years with a possible 1 year extension.
Tasks
- Play a key role in the IN/AT-SYNC JWST large programme targeting the atmospheres of sub-Neptunes in resonant systems.
- Help obtain further JWST transmission spectra of sub-Neptunes.
- Contribute to the project goals while having a large fraction of protected time for independent research.
- Assist with teaching at the University of Bern.
- Possibility to directly supervise Masters projects and provide mentoring to existing PhD students.
Requirements
- Expertise in applying Bayesian statistical methods to astronomical datasets.
- Experience modelling exoplanetary transits.
- Deep knowledge of atmospheric physics (e.g. chemistry, radiative transfer, etc).
- Proven track record as an independent researcher.
- Expertise extracting spectra from JWST timeseries data and the retrieval of abundances is most useful.
- Additional theoretical expertise in connecting sub-Neptune interiors & atmospheres would be beneficial.
