Your tasks

  • Collect cross-linguistic data on synchronic phonological processes like assimilation and devoicing from grammars and other sources for analysis using phylogenetic methods.
  • Develop and refine computational models of sound change and word-form reconstruction to answer key questions in diachronic linguistics.
  • Work at 80% FTE, including about 10% teaching assistant tasks.
  • Use the remaining unpaid 20% for your own further training and skill development.
  • Engage in team science and collaborate closely with others.

What you bring

  • Strong technical skills.
  • Experience with one or more probabilistic programming languages.
  • Knowledge of Bayesian phylogenetic methods or willingness to learn.
  • Background in phonetics, phonology, and/or historical linguistics is ideal.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
